The Batman Part II is back in production. After filming was paused in early October 2026, Robert Pattinson has confirmed that cameras are rolling again, with a remarkable helping hand: Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh is assisting Matt Reeves in completing principal photography.
1. Why production paused
Filming began in London in May 2026, but Warner Bros. and DC Studios announced a temporary pause at the start of October while Reeves dealt with a family matter, giving him their full support. Reeves later clarified on social media that he is not leaving the film: he will remain closely involved in post-production, while Soderbergh helps finish the shoot so the footage cuts seamlessly with what has already been filmed.
2. What Pattinson said
Speaking to GamesRadar+, Pattinson described Soderbergh’s involvement as completely selfless, praising a director of his stature for offering to help Reeves finish a film Reeves had already poured years of work into. The sequel is now dated for February 18, 2028, after earlier dates in October 2025 and October 2027 slipped away.
3. Who returns to Gotham
Alongside Pattinson, Andy Serkis returns as Alfred and Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot, the Penguin, with Jeffrey Wright back as James Gordon. New additions reportedly include Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan, in roles still under wraps. Pattinson has previously called the sequel a real left turn from the 2022 original, which grossed more than $770 million worldwide and spawned the HBO series The Penguin. If the resumed shoot holds, Gotham’s darkest chapter is finally moving again.
