Love of Your Life is the romantic drama that quietly took over Prime Video. After a brief theatrical run on October 7, 2026, it began streaming globally on October 14 — and by October 25 it was the No. 1 movie on Prime Video in the US. Here is what makes it special.

1. The story

Margaret Qualley stars as Maya, a 26-year-old nurse in Boston whose chance encounter with Charlie (Gabriel Basso) sets a sweeping romance in motion — a whirlwind that includes a surprise wedding. When that future is suddenly upended, Maya is sent hurtling toward an unexpected new life, and must reckon with who she is and how to love again.

2. A performance-led film

Qualley, who told Reuters she cried reading the script, is in nearly every frame. She is joined by Aaron Pierre as Felix, a charismatic divorced man who becomes a major figure in Maya’s life, plus Patrick Schwarzenegger and Oscar nominee Catherine Keener. The film’s journey takes Maya through several years and countries, including London and Lisbon.

3. The people behind it

Directed by Rachel Morrison — the acclaimed cinematographer behind Black Panther making her mark as a director — and written by Julia Cox, the film is produced by Ryan Gosling under his Open Invite Entertainment banner. Morrison has said the story carries a lot of her own experience, which may be why it lands so hard.

4. The pandemic chapter

The story’s trajectory changes when it reaches March 2020. Qualley prepared by speaking with emergency-room nurses who worked through COVID-19, and the film treats that period with care rather than as background. The result is a romance about grief, starting over, and what comes after the worst happens. Watch the trailer on the movie’s page.
